How does EVS work?

EVS is an infrared based system that detects differences in heat instead of differences in light as a video camera would. Because it is not based on light, it works equally well in darkness, smoke, smog, haze and other visibility obscurants in the atmosphere. The Camera plus our image processing techniques makes for an amazing view of your environment.

Why would I choose you to provide our EVS solution?

What does it mean that this EVS is "Uncooled"?

Conventional IR systems are cryogenically cooled...that is, they require a mechanical refrigerator to keep the detector very cold in order to "see" small temperature differences. The Max-Viz system uses new, uncooled microbolometer technology to attain the same or better performance without the need for any cooling mechanics. Some of the older, cooled system are sold today at up to $1,000,000 per system. We think we have the same or better technology at fractions of the cost, available on many airframes and easily implemented.

Why is Uncooled better?

When there are no cryogenics required, the need for a compressor and expander system to create the cooling is eliminated. The removes a major mechanical-wear point, and increases the reliability several-fold while eliminating the need for periodic maintenance. This also means a package that is smaller and lighter than conventional systems. Our products are substantially more aerodynamic and lighter than competitors.

How many years have you been in business and how sound are you in today's economy?

Max-Viz was founded 8 years ago by industry veterans. By our estimates, we have the most dedicated knowledge regarding EVS in the world. The company itself is venture backed and has solid financials. Because we are private we don't release financials but because of our new EVS product line, our partners and dealer network, and customer satisfaction, we are delivering record growth. Max-Viz is the leading EVS company in the world.

I have a general aviation Piston powered aircraft. Can I get Max-Viz EVS in an affordable package for General Aviation aircraft?

Yes you can. Check with the manufacturer or your aircraft and contact us. We sell factory direct plus have many OEM relationships. Our products are also available through a vast dealer and MRO network.

How light and small is Max-Viz EVS?

The Max-Viz sensor is approximately 2.75" in diameter and 5.75" long...the smallest and lightest EVS on the market today. The power supply is about 2" X 3" X 4". The total installed weight of the two unit system is under 10 lbs. Installation is simple and often can be done in less than two hours. Unlike others, our systems are designed to be aerodynamic, small, light and simple to install.

How does EVS work in icy conditions?

The EVS has a heated front window that melts ice that might have otherwise accumulated on or around the front window. During the certification process, all tests performed on our systems have met or exceeded FAA requirements.

What are the TAX and INSURANCE implications if I buy a new EVS system?

Because EVS is a safety and productivity enhancement that adds value to the aircraft, you may be able to take advantage of favorable tax treatment. Please consult your accounting department and/or tax advisor for additional advice as to whether you qualify.

Additionally, there may be insurance savings associated with improved safety features added to your airframe, however, we are not qualified to provide specific insurance information and therefore you should consult your insurance professional.

What kind of Displays work with your EVS systems?

Max-Viz products produce a video signal that interfaces with RS-170/NTSC compatible displays. Contact us or your authorized Max-Viz dealer for additional details to find out which Display or Multifunctional Display (MFD) is recommended with your EVS system or airframe. We believe you will find that we have a solution that will work for you.

How Does Export Work and what is the latest news on how it relates to your products?

We have a recent Press Release that explains some of the related export controls based on our technology. Over the last few years our products have been easier and easier to export but they still require attention and we can help you with that. Your EVS solution seems to be so helpful and effective in improving situational awareness, why is it not required on every airframe, especially those that fly into low visibility situations often, like EMS or SAR fleets?
