These types of operations often require:
- Operating into or out of difficult or sloping terrain
- Flying/hovering in poor visibility such as darkness, smoke, haze, dust etc
- Monitoring obstacles in darkness such as trees, stumps or high voltage lines etc
- Terrain following or flying/hovering close to the ground or water
- Pilot acquisition of target in darkness or poor visibility
- Additional safety margins because of dangerous roles
EVS provides the pilot with a video-like image of the area in front of the helicopter, even in darkness. This helps the pilot achieve better situational awareness in these unfamiliar surroundings.
On a helicopter, where is EVS mounted?
The EVS can be mounted in the nose, on the belly or along the landing skids of the helicopter.

On a helicopter, where is EVS displayed?
Any cockpit video-capable display will work. If there is no such display available in the cockpit, the image can be shown on a dedicated display such as a Rosen or DeCrane LCD display.
