EVS is the acronym for Enhanced Vision System, a forward-seeing imaging system that consists of:

  1. An exterior mounted camera using real-time sensors, typically infrared (IR) technology
  2. Signal processing
  3. A cockpit display monitor (head-up display, head-down display, or electronic flight bags)

During poor visibility conditions, such as fog, haze, smoke, precipitation, and darkness, EVS provides the flight crew with actual images of terrain, runways, taxiways, aircraft, and other potential obstacles to greatly extend critical reaction time.

For years, military aircraft have used infrared sensors for nighttime missions. Recent advances in this technology and electronic miniaturization, plus the increasing use of head-up displays (HUDs), have finally made EVS feasible for nonmilitary applications.

As airports and skyways become more congested and as more flights venture into less sophisticated airports of the world, aviation is demanding what EVS promisesimproved flight crew situational awareness to:

  • Reduce runway incursions during take-off and landing
  • Reduce Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT)
  • Reduce approach and landing accidents

Engineering the latest breakthroughs in EVS technology, Max-Viz offers the world’s smallest, most reliable, most affordable systems available today.
