MAX-VIZ EVS-1000 CERTIFIED FOR BELL 212/412 FAMILY
Portland, Oregon (October 6, 2003) A Nevada-based corporate Bell 212 operator and a Midwest Emergency Medical Service (EMS) provider with a fleet of Bell 412 helicopters have selected the EVS-1000 system to increase operational safety. In response to these and other helicopter customer requirements, Max-Viz is developing a family of turnkey installation options. Several Bell 412's are currently flying with EVS and a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) covering the entire Bell 212/412 family is expected by the end of October. The family of installation options include fixed, variable and electrically actuated sensor mounts for under the belly and several different cockpit mount options for the dedicated EVS display.
"The Nevada corporate operator who recently selected Max-Viz often flies at night in mountainous terrain. When we demonstrated EVS to him the benefits were immediately obvious," explains company spokesman. "With ongoing certifications for the Bell 206, S-76 and now the Bell 212/412 series, we will be able to offer significant safety advantages to helicopters involved in many different kinds of missions."
Max-Viz EVS uses long-wave uncooled infrared sensors to generate video-like images of the area in front of the helicopter in flight that are then displayed on a dedicated display in the cockpit that has been optimized for EVS imagery. EVS-1000 provides the pilot with significant improvements in situational awareness during low-level flight at night and in reduced visibility, as well as during landing and takeoff.
"Max-Viz demonstrated this system to us in April and after seeing it in operation, we knew that this technology would revolutionize helicopter operations," said one of the EMS directors. "EMS helicopter operators often face a particularly challenging set of circumstances with the need for speedy response sometimes in hazardous terrain and often in darkness or poor weather conditions."
