Max-Viz Demonstrates Next Generation of Enhanced Vision Systems

March 20, 2002 Portland, OR
Max-Viz, Inc., a leader in the development of Enhanced Vision Systems (EVS), is participating in flight demonstrations of its revolutionary new technology on the Boeing Technology Demonstrator - a Next-Generation 737-900 outfitted with a suite of new and emerging flight deck technologies to assess the value for enhancing safety and operational efficiency across the Boeing fleet of airplanes.

Enhanced vision systems use infrared (IR) short and long-wave sensors to dramatically improve pilot situational awareness. This enables aircraft to more safely taxi, takeoff and land at night or in reduced visibility conditions caused by fog, smoke or haze.

"Max-Viz is pleased to be included on the Boeing Technology Demonstrator," said Gregg Fawkes, president, Max-Viz. "These flight demonstrations of our EVS will allow the industry to experience, first hand, the enhanced safety and operational benefits achievable with this exciting new technology."

Employing uncooled IR sensor technology, the Max-Viz family of products, EVS-1000 and EVS-2000, are smaller, lighter and more reliable than conventional IR systems.

The EVS-1000, the smallest EVS on the market today, is a long wave, IR sensor with a 40-degree forward viewing angle. The system provides pilots with an accurate and clear view of taxiways and runways in darkness or reduced visibility, allowing early detection of terrain and hazards. In flight, the system provides the capability to avoid controlled flight into terrain incidents.

The EVS-2000, flying on the Boeing Technology Demonstrator, is a patented dual sensor infrared system that fuses the dual images for superior performance in highlighting terrain and runway lighting.

With optimal flexibility in mind, both the EVS-1000 and EVS-2000 systems can be installed in the vertical stabilizer, nose or radome of the aircraft. The images can be presented on head-up or head-down displays, dedicated cockpit displays or compatible electronic flight bags.

Max-Viz is the first company in the world dedicated solely to the design, development and manufacture of infrared-based EVS for the commercial and corporate aircraft industry.
