Max-Viz Develops Enhanced Vision Systems (EVS) for Helicopters
February 8, 2003 Portland, OR
Max-Viz, Inc., the industry leader in Enhanced Vision Systems (EVS) for business jets, announced today that it has developed a family of EVS products for the helicopter marketplace. Interest in this application was ignited by recent incidents involving medical emergency airlift operations during patient evacuation from difficult terrain in total darkness.
This interest demonstrates not only the industry-wide benefits of EVS but also the flexibility of our product line and preference for our technology explained Max-Viz company president, Gregg Fawkes. It also gives us the opportunity to fully explore the many safety and operational advantages of our technology in this unique marketplace.
The EVS developed by Max-Viz employs long-wave, uncooled infrared sensors to generate video-like images of the area in front of the helicopter in flight and on the ground that can then be displayed on any video-capable cockpit display. The systems allow the pilot to autonomously ensure the safety of operations during low-level flight over water or terrain as well as landing and takeoff. Helicopters are often involved in search and rescue, law enforcement, surveillance, heavy lift or other missions that require operational readiness during darkness or in poor visibility conditions and sometimes, in difficult terrain. The EVS is particularly useful in these conditions by providing a significant safety enhancement.
We are pleased to bring this improved level of safety to helicopter operators says Chuck Aaron, Helicopter Sales manager for Max-Viz &and we have seen escalating interest in these EVS products from a wide variety of users from government, medical, police and even executive helicopter transport operators as well as the manufacturers themselves.
Late last year, Cessna announced their selection of the Max-Viz EVS for their flagship Citation X and the new Sovereign business jet aircraft. The company has also shipped EVS products for the Dassault Falcon and Bombardier Challenger business jets.
Max-Viz Inc., a Portland, Oregon-based company was founded in early 2001 to design, develop and manufacture Enhanced Vision Systems which improve situational awareness and enhance safety in the air and on the ground by using state-of-the-art real-time infrared sensor technologies.
