Max-Viz Enhanced Vision System (EVS) Scores First FAA Certification Without HUD
March 13, 2003 Portland, OR
Max-Viz Inc. announced today that the companys EVS-1000 Enhanced Vision System (EVS) has received FAA certification on the Bombardier Challenger business jet. The installation and the STC was accomplished by Total Aircraft Services (TAS) in Van Nuys, CA on a customer CL-601-3A aircraft. This marks the first time an EVS has been certified without the requirement for a Head-Up Display (HUD). TAS developed the tail-mounted installation scheme with the image displayed on a dedicated 6.5" capable LCD cockpit display.
Our new sensor technology offers greater flexibility in designing affordable EVS solutions for our customerswe cover the range from nose to tail installation with head-up or head-down display options, says Max-Viz President Gregg Fawkes. You can expect more certifications on other business jets in the near future.
The Max-Viz uncooled long wave infrared-based EVS allows the pilot to see ground vehicles, equipment, obstacles and other aircraft on ramps, taxiways and runways in degraded visibility conditions including darkness, smoke, haze and smog. The system also detects and displays terrain features during low altitude maneuvering, approach and landing. This technology is gaining recognition in the industry as a key element in the prevention of CFIT and the early detection of runway incursions.
This achievement represents quite a milestone for the industry and for our company says Stan Fisher, TAS company President. We are excited to have been an integral part of this pioneering EVS effort and are pleased to be able to offer such a significant safety enhancement to Challenger operators. Fisher expressed confidence that other models in the Bombardier Challenger series will be covered by the STC. It also may provide an EVS opportunity on the Bombardier Regional Jet.
The Cessna Aircraft Company announced at the NBAA airshow in September 2002, their selection of the Max-Viz EVS for their flagship Citation X and the new Sovereign business jets. Max-Viz also recently received an order for the companys EVS-2500 from a VIP customer for its new Boeing B767-200 aircraft.
Max-Viz Inc., a Portland, Oregon-based company was founded in early 2001 to design, develop and manufacture Enhanced Vision Systems which improve situational awareness and safety in the air and on the ground using state-of-the-art real-time infrared sensor technologies.
